The State Ethics Commission (“Commission”) is offering a new ethics refresher class for state agency heads and senior management personnel prior to the start of the 2017 legislative session. The ethics refresher class will review the major provisions of the State Ethics Code, Hawaii Revised Statutes (“HRS”) chapter 84, including ethics laws pertaining to conflicts of interests; gifts and the reporting of gifts; misuse of official position; and post-employment restrictions. This class will also briefly review the lobbying registration and reporting requirements of the State Lobbyists Law, HRS chapter 97.

The State Ethics Commission (“Commission”) is offering a new ethics refresher class for state agency heads and senior management personnel prior to the start of the 2017 legislative session. If you have previously attended an ethics training course but would like a review of the ethical requirements of your state office, we invite you to attend our new one-hour ethics refresher class!
The ethics refresher class will review the major provisions of the State Ethics Code, Hawaii Revised Statutes (“HRS”) chapter 84, including ethics laws pertaining to conflicts of interests; gifts and the reporting of gifts; misuse of official position; and post-employment restrictions. This class will also briefly review the lobbying registration and reporting requirements of the State Lobbyists Law, HRS chapter 97.
The ethics refresher class will be held on December 6, 2016 at the State Capitol, Conference Room 423, 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., and again on January 5, 2017 at the State Capitol auditorium, 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. We encourage you and your staff to attend one of these short refresher classes on ethics.[1] For additional information or to register online for the class, click here: http://ethics.hawaii.gov/2016-17_ethicsrefresh/.

[1] The ethics refresher class is intended for state officials who have previously taken an ethics training course offered by the Commission. Officials who have not previously attended an ethics training course are encouraged to register for the Commission’s general ethics training class (a 1.5 hour course) which is offered several times each year. The Commission will soon be posting its 2017 ethics training schedule on the Commission’s website at http://ethics.hawaii.gov.
