Policy 3.550 RCUH Retiree Health and Life Insurance Program – Clarification on Retiree Medical Plan Reserve

The current RCUH Retiree Health and Life Insurance Program policy indicated the following under Cost and Contributions regarding the Retiree Medical Plan Reserve:

For Retirees With a Hire Date or Last Rehire Date (whichever is later) PRIOR to July 1, 2009: The RCUH had established a Retiree Medical Plan Reserve which assessed all projects with a Retiree Medical Plan Reserve fringe benefit charge on all payroll for Regular-status employees at 50% FTE or greater.  This Retiree Medical Plan Reserves funded a fixed-dollar, not to exceed the total premium costs based on the table below:

Age

RCUH Contribution (for Retiree)

RCUH Contribution  (for Spouse/Civil Union Partner)

59 1/2 and older

$50 per month

$50 per month

Retiree to pay the balance of premium due.

After the announcement of the elimination of the $50 subsidy towards Retiree Health Insurance for RCUH Retirees effective August 1, 2014, there was much confusion regarding the Retiree Medical Plan Reserve as noted in our policy. Effective February 1, 2009, the RCUH terminated the fringe benefit charge for the Retiree Medical Plan Reserve and all monies have been returned to your project. Therefore, we no longer have a Retiree Medical Plan Reserve fund. The policy has been updated to eliminate the mention of a Retiree Medical Plan Reserve to eliminate any confusion. We will be updating this policy again on August 1, 2014, which will eliminate the $50 subsidy completely. If you have any questions, please email RCUH Benefits at [email protected].
