TO: Principal Investigators & Fiscal/Administrative Staff
FROM: Nelson Sakamoto, Director of Human Resources
SUBJECT: Master EIC Determination – Non-Employee – Research Study Participant
This Master EIC Determination is for short-term/day-to-day use for research projects involving confidential human surveys. This Master EIC Determination will remain in effect until further notice. These participants’ identities must be kept confidential and they do not perform any work for the project. Therefore, these participants are NON-EMPLOYEES and not considered Employees or Independent Contractors.
The RCUH recognizes the need for research programs to conduct confidential survey and/or involving token participant payments. The Principal Investigator will furnish the identity of the participants and/or subjects, as needed consistent government regulations or grant requirements. This Master EIC Determination authorizes token payment up to $250 without providing justification.
NOTE: These participants/subjects are not project volunteers. The RCUH Workers’ Compensation Insurance Policy does not cover these participants. Principal Investigators must secure necessary authorizations pursuant to the University of Hawaii policies and any applicable insurance for the activities involving these participants.
